Hey, sorry to hear this. Hopefully you are able to make some of.the suggested changes and resubmit??
I feel like im being pretty objective when I say I read the first three chapters and loved it and wanted more! Not saying the editor was wrong or right, but from this reader’s perspective it was a pretty darn engaging book, right off the bat.

It’s a weird feeling to be absolutely crushed, but okay too. To say it wasn’t what we expected would be a HUGE
understatement. But it’s okay. And now it’s back to work!

Good post and important. The life is a writer is solitude and thought and in the end hopes and dreams and working to make it the best story for the writer and the reader. (Are there “Director’s Cuts” of books?)
Anyway, it reminded me of a post from First Today, Then Tomorrow I read recently:
http://whowritesforyou.com/2012/04/02/the-writers-life-solitude/
To steal from it: “I’ve made a choice to be a writer. Solitude, time alone, is part of that choice. If you want to be a writer you’ll need to chose it as well. Can you tolerate hours alone every day? If that’s so, chose again.”
