Great excerpt! Thanks for sharing and Happy Solstice.

Great snippet! Right now I’d settle for some summery weather that lasts more than a couple of days, let alone asking for one that lasted a couple of years.

Are you in one of the locations where summer failed to install properly?
Have you tried restarting? 😉
June 22nd, 2012 at 13:56
That’s very flattering! Thank you!
June 22nd, 2012 at 13:57
Love how you brought up the issue of different solstices in a galactic-developed society. Great post and interesting excerpt.

Ha, thank you! Lacking their actual names, Kellen decided a bit of shorthand couldn’t hurt.
Thanks for commenting!
June 22nd, 2012 at 14:15
That’s always been fascinating to me, because of the ties most of our society has, even indirectly, to the old solstice/equinox/full moon cycles. Thanks for commenting!
June 22nd, 2012 at 14:28
Oh, sorry to hear you’re having surgery, but I’m glad we’ll be able to help you stay entertained afterward.
Thanks for stopping by!

Crashing in a snow bank? Wow what bad luck!
June 22nd, 2012 at 20:42
Well, to be fair, most of the planet is a snow bank, so there wasn’t really much choice. 😉
Thanks for reading and commenting!

And if those are tilt-based seasons, the winter days will be pretty short.
June 22nd, 2012 at 22:39
Oo, I already have The Slipstream Con in my ereader! I haven’t gotten to it yet, sorry. It sounds so good. Thanks for participating in the hop.

Coming in very late to this party, but just wanted to say that I love the excerpt. Thanks.
June 27th, 2012 at 20:07
I know the blog hop is over, but I wanted to come around and comment on all my fellow hoppers’ posts. I couldn’t get to a computer while the hop was live.
The Ylendrian Empire sounds very interesting. I love all the thought put into it. And ‘The Slipstream Con’ sounds great! I would love to read more!
June 27th, 2012 at 22:09
Thanks, Kimber. We appreciate you stopping by!
June 27th, 2012 at 22:12
Exactly! Thankfully, it’s less tilt-based, and more orbital, otherwise I don’t tnink Noska would have been colonized at all.
Then again, the Empire never let a little thing like discomforrt stop them from pillaging natural resources.
June 27th, 2012 at 22:15
No need to apologize, everyone has more books than reading time, and we appreciate you buying the book! We hope you enjoy it when you get to it. 🙂
Thanks for commenting!
June 27th, 2012 at 22:20
Thanks, Cheryl! One of my favourite parts of writing a vast, sprawling Empire is that I can play with cultures and still try to weave them all into the fabric of a shared society.
One of the protagonists in our next book, Peripheral People is from a planet once colonized and settled by Imperial citizens, who broke away from the Empire and established a strict isolationist culture. We had loads of fun messing with Corwin 😉
Thanks for dropping by!

June 27th, 2012 at 22:26
Well, Noska is RIGHT up your alley, in that case, and two of the main characters were brn and raised there. 😉
Thanks so much for stopping by and commenting!

It’s never too late for a free read, right? Thanks for popping through!
June 27th, 2012 at 22:34
Thanks so much for stopping by, Kyndra. If you’re interested in a bit more Slipstream, you can find another excerpt and some (slightly spoilery, but it’s warned for) flash fiction in the “Free Reads” section.
Thanks again!
